Please note that I included this section a couple of
years ago. My beliefs aren't set in
stone; as new evidence comes to light and new experiences come my way, I
consider and adapt as necessary. As such, there is much that no longer applies
to me, but I have left it here for those that may find it useful.

Just a note...
It seems that there's confusion
about what it is I believe and practice. For the purposes of
clarification, I decided to add these comments.
Firstly, I am not, and never have
been, Wiccan. Though I have stated this more than once on this site, it
seems to be a point often missed. A Wiccan (or Wicca, depending on who
you ask) is someone who practices the religion of Wicca. I don't. I
never have. It has never been my cup of tea.
Am I a Pagan? If you use the strict
definition that says a Pagan is anyone who is NOT a Jew, Christian or
Muslim - then yes, going by that definition I am a Pagan. My site is
part of Pagan webrings as well - the reason being that there is
information here that is likely to appeal to people who consider
themselves earth-based in their beliefs. But if you ask me whether I'm
anything remotely like a hippy or a New Age mystic, the answer is a
resounding, "No." Furthermore, I do not, and have never, worshipped or
worked with any Pagan deities of any sort whatsoever (unless, of course,
you include Jesus - but that's another story).
I do observe nature around me - I take notice of the phase
of the moon and enjoy plants and animals much more than other people I know. I
have always had a sense of connection with nature. Things like crystals and
gemstones, essential oils and the like have appealed to me for as long as I can
remember. I was raised as a Christian and even when I was a small child I would
carry around gemstones, grow lots of plants and rescue almost all manner of
critters. Not once did I try to burn insects under a magnifying glass or other
similar things. On the contrary, I would save bees (and other insects) from
drowning in the swimming pool - very carefully putting them somewhere safe to
dry in the sun, and feeding them honey on the end of a matchstick. (Bees have
blue, curly tongues... just for the record.
) No one told
me to do these things; these were things I just did. I had no idea of the
associations that such behaviour had with Paganism, and my parents had no
problem with it either. They encouraged my love of nature. The opinion was that
plants, critters and stones were things God created, so there was no issue. (If
you check the Gallery section, in
My Photos,
you can find a picture of me up a tree with a magpie lark I raised by hand when
my mother and I rescued it from some butcher birds.)
Am I a Witch? Yes. Essentially, a
Witch is one who focuses energy, who does this deliberately with a
specific outcome in mind, and who consciously develops this area of
his/her life. People focus energy every day. Making a wish and blowing
out the candles on your cake is one example. Many don't necessarily
consider it as being anything significant. Personally, I find ritual
helpful in focusing myself; I use it as a means get all my little
"mental ducks" in a row. I use it as a tool for my own clarity of mind.
Do I believe in love potions and other such nonsense? Hell no. That sort
of thing is the stuff of teenagers who aren't getting their own way. My
car doesn't turn into a pumpkin after midnight and I actually have to do
my own housework.
